How your plastic bottles are made into our polewear
At Luna we believe in always looking for ways to reduce our impact on the earth. This is why we’re so excited about our new recycled fabric range. Made from Repreve, a fabric that uses 100% recycled plastic bottles. This removes plastic waste from our oceans while saving a whole lot of energy in the process. Want to know how it’s made? Post consumer plastic water bottles are sourced as well as other plastic goods that are filling our oceans or land fills. These are then washed, with their labels and lids removed.
This is where the magic happens! The bottles are first chopped into flakes, melted into chips and a whole lot of cutting edge sciencey stuff to produce a recycled polyester yarn.
Easy hacks to reduce your impact:
- Grab a bucket and pop it in your shower when you’re waiting for the water to heat up. You’ll be surprised how quickly it fills up! This can then be used to water your plants or wash your car.
- Learn how to compost. There’s heaps of information on the web these days, including DIY indoor composts for you babes in apartments. Composting reduces waste that ends up in landfill and provides nutrients for plants to grow.
- Why not do a clothes swap on your next girls night in? This can be a fun way to give life back to your unused items and freshen up your wardrobe. Even better, it’s free!
